Career as a plant mechanic

Whether it's production, assembly or maintenance - training as a plant mechanic is very varied and yet manageable in its field of activity. You will learn to understand and create technical drawings. You will also work on individual parts for your system, create their components and then assemble them into an assembly or system. You will work on machine tools or by hand. You will use saws, scissors and flame cutters to produce precisely fitting components for your system.

Once the equipment has been set up, you are responsible for its maintenance, care and any conversion work. In your apprenticeship, you will look after the system from the first to the last hour, knowing every screw and the entire structure.

Contents of the training

Training as a plant mechanic generally takes three and a half years, although the duration of training can be reduced to up to two and a half years in individual cases. As the apprenticeship has a dual structure, you will have theoretical lessons at a vocational school, but of course you will also learn the practical skills directly with us.

In the first year of your apprenticeship as a prospective plant mechanic, you will primarily deal with the properties of different recyclable materials. You will learn how they behave and how to process them optimally. In the second year of your apprenticeship, you will become familiar with the first supply systems and their components. Of course, quality management also plays an important role here, i.e. testing systems and maintaining equipment. In addition, environmental protection (especially with a focus on air conditioning technology), safety at work and the transportation of components and assemblies are important components of your training. A wide range of further training opportunities (e.g. master craftsman, technician) offer exciting prospects for developing your career even after your apprenticeship.

What does the working environmentlook like?

During your apprenticeship as a plant mechanic, you can work in very different environments. For example, you may be deployed both in the production hall and on the customer's assembly line. As a plant mechanic, you will often have to clean a piece of equipment, load a truck or replace something on a system, which may involve getting your overalls dirty.

But you are also challenged strategically, because you go through the daily tasks with your colleagues and together you make a plan of what needs to be done, how and in what order. As a result, no two days at work are the same and you gain a lot of professional experience - not least because the work on the construction site is always full of variety and surprises.
