CO2-free heating and cooling supply

As part of a transformation process towards CO2-free energy generation, the company B. Braun, together with the project development company Prolignis, has installed two biomass cogeneration plants to supply electricity, steam and heat.

As part of the 2nd project phase, the 2nd project phase was successfully completed in the period from June 2020 to January 2022 with the installation of a second wood-fired power plant to supply heating and cooling to the "Pfieffewiesen" site. Natural wood residues from a maximum radius of 80 km around the site are used as fuel for both power plants. The plants are designed so that the electricity generated is fed into the public grid in accordance with the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) and the heat generated at 90 °C is used forCO2-free heating and cooling of the site.

Four absorption chillers with a cooling capacity of 6 MW were installed in two different production areas to generate cooling at a temperature level of 12°/6°C. As part of the second project phase, Antrok planned, manufactured and installed the entire steel structure for the second combined heat and power plant, including the structural analysis.

In the second lot, Antrok was responsible for planning, supplying and installing the entire heating, cooling and cooling circuit piping, including the installation planning and all the necessary plant construction. The chillers are installed directly at the B. Braun plant, while the necessary recoolers are installed directly at the wood-fired power plant.

The entire installation of the piping was carried out by B. Braun during full production operation with all the necessary safety measures and in compliance with coronavirus at all times. As part of the commissioning, the respective pipework conversion work had to be carried out largely during the weekends.

Power supply performance data for B. Braun:

  • Max. 10 MW heat supply
  • Max. 6 MW cooling capacity with 12°/6°C
  • Approx. 2 MW Power generation

Data on the scope of services provided by Antrok:

  • Around 70 fitters were involved in the work during the peak assembly period.
  • More than 3,000m of DN100 to DN 500 pipes were laid.
  • More than 20,000 kg of steel was processed and assembled for the necessary structures and brackets.
  • Antrok has completed approx. 30,000 assembly hours
